Your Car Passed Its MOT… But What Does That Actually Mean?
There's a common misconception that when a vehicle passes its MOT, it's been given a clean bill of health for the next 12 months.
Unfortunately, that's not quite how it works!
An MOT pass means your vehicle met the minimum required standards at the time of the test, as set out by the DVSA.
It does NOT mean every component is in perfect condition, and it certainly doesn't guarantee your vehicle will remain roadworthy until its next MOT.

🔧 SO, WHAT ABOUT ADVISORIES?
Advisories are an important part of the MOT process.
They're used to highlight issues that don't currently warrant an MOT failure but may need attention now or in the future.
For example:
🔸 Brake pads that are wearing thin but still meet the required standard.
🔸 Tyres approaching the legal tread limit.
🔸 Suspension components showing signs of wear.
These items may pass today, but that doesn't mean they'll still be acceptable in six months' time.
⚠️ AN MOT IS A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR VEHICLE'S CONDITION, NOT A 12-MONTH GUARANTEE.
It's also worth remembering that an MOT isn't the same as a service. The MOT checks specific safety and environmental requirements, while regular servicing helps maintain your vehicle's overall condition and reliability.
At R & J Car Services, we believe in being thorough, transparent and helping our customers understand the condition of their vehicles.
Our aim isn't simply to get your car through an MOT, it's to help you keep it safe and reliable throughout the year.
🚗 A PASS IS THE MINIMUM STANDARD. GOOD MAINTENANCE GOES BEYOND IT.
