If your car’s MOT is coming up, a few quick checks can make the difference between a pass and a fail. At R & J Car Services Felixstowe, we’ve helped hundreds of local drivers get ready for their test – and many MOT fails could be avoided with a simple pre-check.
Here’s how to prepare your car before its MOT:
1. Check Your Lights 💡
Over 15% of MOT failures are due to faulty bulbs. Make sure all indicators, brake lights, and headlights work properly. Don’t forget the number plate lights!
2. Inspect Tyres and Tread 🚗
Your tyres must have at least 1.6mm tread depth across the central three-quarters. Also check for cracks, bulges, or uneven wear.
3. Clean Your Car 🧽
It might sound simple, but a dirty car can actually lead to a refusal to test. Ensure your registration plate and windows are clean and readable.
4. Top Up Fluids 🛠️
Check your oil, screenwash, and brake fluid levels. Low fluids could cause your vehicle to fail.
5. Test Wipers and Horn 🔊
Make sure your wipers clear the screen effectively and your horn works – both are part of the MOT checklist.
At R & J Car Services, we offer pre-MOT inspections to catch small issues before they cause a fail.
